Google Expands AI Overviews and Launches AI Mode in Search

AI Overviews now reach more users with Gemini 2.0, and Google introduces AI Mode for advanced searches with smarter answers and deeper insights.

Google is making Search smarter with new AI updates. More people will now have access to AI Overviews, powered by Gemini 2.0. This upgrade makes responses faster and more useful, especially for complex topics like coding and advanced math. AI Overviews will also be available to teens, and users won’t need to sign in to access them.

Introducing AI Mode

Google is also testing a new feature called AI Mode. It helps with advanced searches by offering deeper reasoning and better comparisons. Users can ask detailed questions and get clear AI-generated answers, along with useful web links for more information.

AI Mode is powered by a custom version of Gemini 2.0. It can handle complex, multi-step searches, like comparing different products or exploring new concepts. For example, if you ask about the differences between a smart ring, smartwatch, and tracking mat for sleep tracking, AI Mode will break the question into smaller parts and find the best information from multiple sources.

With AI Mode, you can also ask follow-up questions, like "What happens to your heart rate during deep sleep?" and get a simple, clear answer with helpful links.

Better Search with AI

AI Mode improves how Google retrieves and ranks information. It combines Google's search technology with real-time data, helping users find high-quality content more easily. It also uses a special search method that looks at different sources at the same time and organizes the results into an easy-to-read answer.

While AI Mode aims to provide useful responses, sometimes it will show regular search results if the AI isn’t confident in its answer. Google is testing AI Mode in Labs with selected users, gathering feedback to make it better.

Testing and Future Updates

Trusted testers have found AI Mode helpful, especially for speed and accuracy. Now, Google is expanding testing with Google One AI Premium subscribers. The company is also working on new features, like adding images, videos, and better formatting to AI responses.

This is just the beginning! Google will continue improving AI Mode based on user feedback to make Search even smarter.
