World's First Baby Born With Help From Advanced AI IVF System
A woman gives birth to a healthy baby boy thanks to a new AI-driven IVF machine. Scientists believe this automated system is highly accurate.
A baby has been born using artificial intelligence (AI). This is a world first for IVF science. IVF helps people have babies. A machine run by AI helped a 40-year-old woman. She was able to give birth because of this machine.
IVF means 'in vitro fertilization'. It is a science method used often. It was developed years ago. One kind of IVF is called ICSI. In ICSI, one sperm is put into an egg in a lab. Any baby seeds, called embryos, are then put into the woman.
But this work can be hard. It can depend on the skill of the expert. Injecting sperm carefully by hand is needed.
A scientist, Jacques Cohen, spoke about this. He said staff can get tired. Mistakes can be made by tired people. Fewer babies might be born because of errors.
So, a special machine was made by a team. This was done because mistakes can happen. The machine does the 23 steps for ICSI. It is made to be very exact. The machine can be used by a person pushing buttons. Or, it can be run by AI all by itself.

How does the AI machine work? First, the best sperm are chosen by the AI. The machine then makes sperm easy to grab. Their tails are stopped using a zap. Then, the sperm is put right into the eggs. The whole job is done automatically by this system.
It is said to be very accurate. Some say it is better than a person can be. An engineer, Gerardo Mendizabal-Ruiz, said this. He said the AI picks sperm and holds it still with a laser. This is done fast and well.
Dr. Cohen also said this is a big change. Good results are promised every time. More eggs might survive too.
Now, the machine has been tested. It was used by a woman in Mexico. Her past IVF try had not worked. Eggs were hard for her to make. So, eggs from another woman were used. Her partner's sperm also did not swim well.
Five eggs were fertilized by the AI machine. The machine was controlled from far away. Steps were performed when commands were given by scientists. The job took about 10 minutes. This was longer than when done by hand. The time will hopefully be shortened later.
Four eggs were fertilized well. One embryo was put into the woman. But it did not grow. A second embryo was put in later. Luckily, a healthy baby boy was born.
Will this AI way be used everywhere soon? It is not likely right now. It costs a lot. But Dr. Cohen hopes the cost will be lowered. This might happen when the method is improved more.
